Debate regarding the impact of COVID-19 on migrants and refugees

On 16 December 2020 the CIDOB Barcelona organized an online expert debate regarding the impact of COVID-19 on migrants and refugees.  

In this online dialogue, María Martín, journalist from El País, Gonzalo Fanjul, Director of Analysis at ISGlobal and Director of the research area of por Causa (NGO), and Albert Sales, researcher at the Institute of Regional and Metropolitan Studies of Barcelona (IERMB), moderated by Blanca Garcés, senior researcher at CIDOB, has analyzed the impact of Covid-19 on migrants and refugees’ reception and integration. The dialogue has covered the main challenges and limits related to the Spanish reception and integration systems. Here follows some of the key-topics addressed during the event: 

•    difficulties to comply with the sanitary measures during  the reception crisis in the Canary Islands; 
•    how the current situation affects women;
•    the role of European Institutions in the current crisis;
•    the functioning of the asylum system and migration policies in Spain; 
•    migrants and refugees access to labor market and housing.
