Greece: NIEM National Meeting 2019 – round table discussion

On 16th of December 2019 “ANTIGONE – Information and Documentation Centre on Racism, Ecology, Peace, and Non- Violence” (ANTIGONE) organized and successfully implemented the National Meeting for 2019, which was a round table discussion, within the frame of the Project National Integration Evaluation Mechanism (NIEM) under the AMIF Fund.

The meeting had the topic “The founding parameters for social induction of refugees in Greece during the years where the designation of the refugee crisis is an up most dominant European situation”.

At the beginning of the meeting, Ms. Kiorapostolou made a brief introduction about NIEM and Mr. Tremopoulos presented the results of the comparative report and annual outcome of the NIEM project.

The rest of the meeting was divided in two parts. The first part had the topic “Methods and tools of social induction” and the second part -  “Barriers towards social integration”.

The meeting gathered 96 participants and the discussions were very interesting and fruitful. The speakers raised questions about the lack of appropriate refugee management tools and measures, the lack of integration programs within the hosting structures, the vulnerability of children and the necessity for them to learn the national language, the barriers to the integration process and how refugees themselves experience it, etc. Many participants shared their willingness to realize other similar meetings expanding the topics mentioned above in the future.
