International partners’ meeting within the framework of the NIEM project

On 14-15 February the Institute of Public Affairs organized in Warsaw the first international partners’ meeting within the framework of the NIEM project.

The aim of the meeting was to discuss the most relevant issues regarding the project implementation as well as to decide on plans for the future. Additionally, on 14 February IPA organized a debate entitled “What are the economic costs and benefits of migration?”. Ms. Sayaka Osanami Törngren from Malmö University and Ms. Elena Sánchez-Montijano from CIDOB - Barcelona Centre for International Affairs, both representatives of organisations taking part in the NIEM international coalition, were the speakers in the debate. Discussion participants agreed that Europe responded to the migration crisis too late and that at present it lacks a vision of what are the needs and expectations in the area of migration. The issue of integration was raised as well and its connections with employment, education, participation in the local communities or access to health care were underlined.

The meeting on 14 February was held at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Poland with the support of the Swedish Embassy in Poland.
