National Coalition meeting “Bulgarian as a Foreign Language in a Pandemic. Communication and integration of refugees and migrants”

On October 31, the Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants in partnership with Мулти култи // Multi Kulti, the UNHCR Bulgaria and the Association of Teachers in Bulgarian as a Foreign Language held a seminar on “Bulgarian as a Foreign Language in a Pandemic. Communication and integration of refugees and migrants.


The program of the event included the topic of university training in Bulgarian language for foreigners in a pandemic, presented by Assoc. Prof. Galina Kurteva - Chairperson of ABLTF, training in Bulgarian for foreigners in Caritas Sofia and the Bulgarian Red Cross, presented by Vladislav Damyanov and Radost Sabeva. An highlight was also placed on the practice of teaching Bulgarian language for refugee children at the “Ivan Vazov” Primary School in Harmanli, presented by Svetla Georgieva. The seminar provided an opportunity to identify good practices and challenges in teaching Bulgarian as a foreign language in a pandemic, as well as to exchange ideas and recommendations for future initiatives. The Bulgarian Council on Refugees and Migrants actively supports the Association of Teachers in Bulgarian as a Foreign Language as part of its strategic efforts to develop the capacity of civil society structures for the integration of refugees and migrants in Bulgaria.
